Cities, an Oxfam publication
Urbanisation is a central issue in the 21st century as an increasing proportion of the population migrates to cities. This book examines the effects of urbanisation in the global South. It is concerned not only with the altered fabric of the daily lives of people who migrate from villages to towns and cities but, more significantly, with the effects on the psyche and sensibility of people who have until recently lived as agricultural workers.
Including case studies from South Asia and Latin America, this is a rich collection of first-hand stories from new urban dwellers, accompanied by research and analysis.
